About the course

Protein coding genes are often of key interest for ecologists and evolutionary biologists when studying adaptation and evolution. In this course, you will learn how to detect signs of positive and negative selection both in single genes and across genomes using models of codon evolution.

About Prof Dr Maria Anisimova

Dr Maria Anisimova is a professor at the Zurich University of Applied Sciences, Institute for Computational Life Sciences (ICLS), head of the Bioinformatics research track and group leader of the Applied Computational Genomics Team (ACGT).

About Dr Jūlija Pečerska

Dr Jūlija Pečerska is a postdoc in Maria's group, Applied Computational Genomics Team (ACGT). She got her PhD from the Biosystems Science and Engineering (BSSE) department at ETH Zürich, working on phylodynamics and epidemiology of drug resistant strains of tuberculosis. At the moment Jūlija is working on joint alignment and tree inference under the Poisson indel process.
